Sport activities and facilities at Bethlehem University have a rich history dating back to 1973 when a group of first-year students took the initiative to establish a basketball team. This pioneering team included Khalil Shouka, Anis Halabi, Issa Al-Naber, Rober Handal, Edward Hazboun, and Salim Al-Hodaly, with Mr. Khalil Shoukeh overseeing their efforts.
Discussions between these students and the university administration, represented by Brother Anthony and Brother Brendan (the founders of the University), highlighted the need for a dedicated coach for the team. They approached Mr. Amin Zait, who agreed to supervise the sports teams. The team commenced its training in October 1973, initially coached by student Khalil Shoukeh, and later, in May 1974, by Mr. Amin Zeit as a part-time coach. During this period, the team engaged in four games with Bethlehem district school teams and club teams.
In the academic year 1974/1975, Bethlehem University expanded its sports offerings to include basketball, handball, football, and volleyball for its students. Currently, the university has both men's and women's basketball teams, along with a women's volleyball team. The campus features two tennis courts and one basketball court.
