Established in 1994, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of the Sultanate of Oman is the government ministry responsible for overseeing and regulating higher education, research and innovation in Oman. Its mission is to develop and promote high-quality tertiary education and research, foster innovation and entrepreneurship and enhance the skills and capabilities of the Omani workforce.
The ministry is responsible for formulating policies, strategies and plans for higher education, research and innovation. It also regulates and monitors the quality of higher education institutions and programs in Oman, ensures that they are aligned with the needs of the labor market and promotes internationalization and collaboration with institutions abroad.
In addition, the ministry provides financial support and scholarships to Omani students to study abroad, promotes scientific research and development and supports the transfer of technology and knowledge from academia to industry.
The ministry plays a key role in Oman's efforts to develop a knowledge-based economy and to build a skilled and educated workforce that can contribute to the country's sustainable development.
