Established in 1946, the Ministry of Civil Aviation in India is a government ministry responsible for the formulation of national policies and regulations for the development and regulation of civil aviation and for the implementation of various programs for the growth of the aviation sector in India. The ministry has a limited role in higher education, primarily in the areas of aviation-related education and training. It oversees the functioning of several aviation-related training institutions in the country, such as the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA) and the Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU). The ministry also works closely with other government agencies and the aviation industry to develop policies and programs for the promotion of research and development in the aviation sector.
